Ag

"This is the only thing my school's done for me,"said one of the 12 year olds at club as he fingered through his school diary to find Ag in the Periodic Table. "Silver" he said.

He hadn't found the complete answer so he checked out 'cirrus' on line. "Clouds" he said. " Silver clouds?" he asked. "A saying about silver and clouds?"

"Google those words" he was told.

He did and he got it...after much research including asking people, looking up the Periodic table, the internet and he finally came up with...

"Every cloud has a silver lining!" and he noticed that they even looked like clouds.

Red Nose Day 2011

We made Red Nose cupcakes...did some red nose and spoon races...

Made some red nose monster swirls and pointy hands and moustaches on sticks
(a la Monty Python)

...and we sold, bought and wore red noses...

Moving Story

Japan's recent tsunami, earthquake and nuclear power plant explosion prompted my daughter to ask me:

"Are we all going to die?"

I thought to myself - yes we are eventually - but then thought about the fact that she was just starting to pack to move house, so I asked:

"Are you asking so you don't have to pack?"

"Well if we're all going to die then I don't need to move or pack and I can sit on the sofa and watch TV."

Talking about finding the silver lining!

No Cake for Men

Jon sat in the Departure Lounge tapping on his lap-top as a woman went round the room. She told a woman in the corner to help herself to some cake to celebrate International Women's Day, then the woman near her, then the woman across from him. Then she passed him to go to the woman on his other side and another woman beside her.

  • Why was he left out? Why was he discriminated against?
  • Couldn't he celebrate International Women's Day?
  • Weren't some of the most important people in his life, women - his mum, his sister, his girlfriend?

He loved women - why couldn't he have cake?
