Watching paint dry is probably more interesting than this exhibition at the Science Museum...especially when compared to the others...and even when it might be useful for a history GCSE...just don't do it!

Quick Crossword

I know it is sad but I love finishing crosswords (hate not finishing) and this is the fastest I've done the Guardian Quick Crossword - 8 minutes or 4 stops on the Jubilee Line from Waterloo to Canada Water...oh well we all have our dark secrets...and yes I do know that it is even sadder that I have a photo of the crossword - btw Tom was a witness, in case you care enough to dispute the facts.

Regent's Canal

A Banksy on the bank of the Regent's Canal?

I discovered Regent's Park is only a bike ride away...along Limehouse cut then along Regent's canal (coming up to street level just for 5 mins in Islington) and more KMs for YAP...

Two great collages done by M & Hanifa...they tell you its summer even if the weather doesn't!

The Swedish Ship Götheborg

Forget Pirates of the Carribean...check out the Swedish ship Götheborg, a full-scale replica of an 18th century East India merchantman in South Quay!

I am wandering along and spot the ship and it seems like I have gone back a couple of hundred years or at the very least wandered onto a film set...its pretty spectacular...blurb follows:

The Götheborg is the only ship like it in the world and the first ever replica East Indiaman to sail into London. The Götheborg has returned to London 262 years after her original namesake left for Sweden; a dramatic, final voyage that saw the ship wrecked just outside Gothenburg Harbour as an insurance scam on 12 September, 1745. Her cargo at the time was valued at more than the Swedish national budget. The Götheborg will stay in London until 2 June, berthed at West India Docks, South Quay, E14 9RS. She is open to the public during this time, providing an insight into the type of ships that helped build the country's wealth and shape its heritage over 200 years ago. A quayside exhibition about this ship's recreation is also provided.

City Airport

Another bike ride, this time to the City Airport, with Georgi & Craig...another 15km for YAP

More iconic architecture (the Dome & Canarywharf)...

And more arty bits...

... we weren't really sure about it...but seeing as they were in the grounds of UEL we thought they might have have some deeper meaning that non-graduates wouldn't understand...of course they may also be just meant to look pretty.

State of London

Went to the State of London Debate at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster to hear what Ken (thats Livingston the mayor) had to say about London...not as some might suggest, to get free pens and free food and drink, although if anyone does run out of pens see either myself, Tomas or Craig.

There were stalls with all kinds of information on subjects from transport to the environment with all kinds of leaflets, cards, posters, bags, books and yes pens. All kinds of everyone was/were (where is Wendy when I need her) there, from older to younger, Londoners to Out-of-Londoners, posh to us.

It was good to hear and see what is going on in London and to have the opportunity to ask questions, as many did and hear answers to those questions from Ken. The pens are quite handy too!

To read what Ken had to say (which was all actually spoken and not read out by him) check out the site above.

Escalator Question

You are waiting for a train. You hear a scream. You look round and people are looking up. You look to see two older people tumbling down the up escalator.

What do you do?

I ... being the unthinking girlscout that I can be...raced past the gawping by-standers (with the sound of the theme tune from Raiders of the Lost Ark ringing in my ears) and took two steps at a time up the escalator to grab hold and lift the woman into a standing position just in time for the escalator to stop dead. Someone else had had the brainwave to press the emergency button! The term 'fools rush in' comes to mind.
